All,

Have posted various threads in the last week or so looking for some answers, and thanks to those who helped. Most concerned a dodgy speedo, which is now booked in to fix- cant waut to see how fast i actually travel!!

Next one (alhough its not unduly worrying). Whenever i come to a complete stand still, after about 2 seconds there is a one off clonk, from somewhere behind (ie axle).

Could anyone shed any light on this for me??? As i said, its not a worrying noise, and only ever happens the once, almost like two mechanical bits coming to rest-although its a noticable delay between stopping and it occuring.

Having just read back the above, I guess you must all be jealous of my mechanical knowledge, describing things as "two mechanical bits", sorry to be amazingly vague. I have only had the car a week today, and only been out in her 4 times due to the global warming, or continual *issing rain as i refer to it as.

All help appreciated.

I know it only adds fuel to the Griff boys' fire, but it's not unknown to have a golf ball or some such thing rolling about under the petrol tank that can cause such a noise.

Could be your diff bushes, do you know if they've been changed before? If it was the diff bushes, you should be able to hear the clonk when letting off the throttle sharply when driving along...

Cheers folks.

Not so sure about the golf ball- but graciously accept tht chim owners can fit golf bags in the boot (if i were to be in the position to want to ruin a good walk!)

Diff bushes were changed (according to the history) but some fair time ago, so will look at getting them done soon i guess- anyone got an idea of price??

Thinking of taking the car to my nearest dealer- based in silverstone, name escapes me.

Has anyone had any experience of this outfit????? Not helpful without a name i know, but they specialise in TVR and Lotus (and Toyota for some strange reason)

For what its worth, I did look at a griff, but couldnt afford one, so plumped for a 93 Chim. Its old i know, but its in *loody good nick, has 44k documented miles on it, was at the right price, and i love it to pieces. First (and not last) TVR, should have done it years ago!

I have found the sender in the fuel tank can clonk around abit especially if nearly empty.

Ditto,if you think about it the drivetrain can't move at standstill, and the fuel sender i think can move about with less resistance with less fuel.

As above, it could be the sides of the fuel tank being sucked in as the fuel is used up and the tank not being vented to atmospheric pressure. Mine does it now and again particularly when low on petrol.
If, or when it does it again, pull over release the boot and open the fuel filler cap.
If you get a sucking, or rushing of air as the cap comes off you may find the tank makes the same noise you hear in the car as the air rushes in.
Then again in might be something completely different.
Cheers.

Ditto again! - especially as it happens AFTER you've stopped (but while the fuel is strill sloshing around in the tank). Mine does that too sometimes.

Good call on the fuel tank.. I mis-read the problem and thought it might be sort of as he stopped. Agree that the fuel tank vent may well be the problem. pull of the input hose to the carbon canister in the nose on the offside. This should stop the problem if the carbon canister was blocked. If you do this though, remember to block off the vac hose that runs from the plenum down into the wing and into the canister.
