There must be a simple answer to this, but how do you disconnect the battery without the alarm sounding?

I changed the fuel filter today, and eventually had to muffle the alarm with rags as I couldn't shut the darn thing off sonar when the battery was disconnected.

This must either be a special alarm to protect the battery, or faulty, as it's the only time it's sounded, no matter how often I have tried to test it! banghead

I have searched, and know this has been raised before, but the item has been removed.

Anybody got the simple answer please?

What car is it and what alarm? If it was a Meta fitted to later Chimaeras and it was unset, it should not sound as you disconnect the battery. The siren does have its own battery and would probably sound if the car's battery was disconnected with the alarm set.

As you're also unable to get the alarm to sound in 'normal' circumstances, I'd suspect a faulty alarm.

Thanks Andy; I think the faulty alarm diagnosis is probably right.

It is a Meta alarm on a '98 4.0 Chimaera, and although it appears to be 'standard' I can't find any sensors.

I'll just put it on the list of things to sort out when I'm resting!
