Anyone done this mod, going from a 5AM to a 20AM if so can you help with the wiring?

I switched from the Lucas to the bigger Bosch MAF meter and got the wiring/tune resistor to run it on the 14CUX from Mark Adams (he does a little "black box" kit.

There are instructions on the RPI web site, and Mark Adams supplies good clear instructions (plus all the connectors you need etc) as a kit with the 20AM. You are aware that you will need a new chip too? The wiring mods are the easy bit.

hehe

Glad somebody's done it. Any problems getting a consistent reading? Apparently the gauze on the original does a very useful job of stabilising the air flow by damping out large scale eddies, and you might need some care to get the meter to read consistently.

One of the first things I consigned to the pile of ex-TVR bits in the workshop. Followed fairly soon by the AFM itself... hehe

Can't say I ever noticed any ill effects by junking the gauze despite dire warnings to keep it smile

yes i currently dont have the gauze either(no noticeable difference)a casualty of some testing i was doing with Blitzracings Mark beer was trying just about everything to research the dreaded low speed lurch and have not bothered refitting.

Ive looked at the wiring mod on the RPI site, all all this does is add the ability to tweek the CO setting on the non cat fuel map, as the relevent variable resistor is not fitted to the 20AM. As most cars are now catalyst I dont think you will need it, as this circuit is turned off on the cat tune resistor. It would be interesting to get a 20AM and put it on the bench against a 5AM and compare the voltages for given airflows. It might be possible to tweek the outputs to match, so you dont need a rechip, but id need to have a look. Anyone got one I could borrow for this?
