Hi, IV just started the dreaded chassis refurbishment yuck , spent all day Friday scrapping and poking about. party
I am now happy the loose original powder coat is off , and all areas that need touching up are grease and oil free.
I have” Metal Ready” and Por 15 ready and waiting (Then plan to waxoil to finish) .
What I would like to know is what is the best way to clean and then coat the outrigger sides.
I think I have removed all the loose stuff but it is impossible to see and I cant even get my hand in to feel.
Im guessing some sort of spray device would work but i am concerned what damage I may cause spraying this POR 15 about. Apparently its pretty difficult stuff to work with and remove once it dries.

Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.clap

I was starting to think along the lines of coating what I can see with Por 15 then spraying what I cant see with that Dintrol spray can stuff, what do you guys think?thumbup

To paint the tops of the outriggers I took a computer PCI slot blanking plate bent into a hook, and stuck on some self adhesive foam to make a brush that could be loaded with paint. Although I used a thicker epoxy paint rather than POR, but should work as well.

I then bought some spray cans of Dinitrol 4941 with the extension tube and treated all the areas that I could not paint like inside corner plates etc together with everything else. Definitely worth using that rather than Waxoyl imo as it drys to a nice mat black finish and is so much tougher. Waxoyl always stays slightly sticky I found.

After all that ran a bead of silicon sealant along the top of the tube in the rear wheel arch which otherwise allows crud to fill up the gap between it and the body, and made some plastic guards for the front wheel arches tubes to stop that area filling up.

If I did it all again would probably use Dinitrol 3125 in the hidden areas as it is maybe more suited to that rather than 4941.

thanks for the advise, the dintrol you used was it in a aerosol can?. Or do you have a air line?.
I cant seem to find the 4941 or 3125 on the frost web site in aerosol.

4941 worked great on all the exposed areas and I got good coverage into the hidden bits like the rear seat belt mount etc. But from what I have read 3125 is a bit thinner so soaks into dirt and rust better, dunno just a thought I had afterwards. But even if I used 3125 I would still cover it with 4941 as it gives such a nice finish.

I bought 6 x 400ml aerosol cans of 4941 and did front/rear suspension and outriggers, have got just over a can left but useful to have for touch ups.

try www.rust.co.uk for the Dinitrol
