Just noticed battery light staying on whilst I drove away in low revs . . . stayed on before whilst stationary in traffic and then went away when I opened up the throttle . . . is this the beginnings of a sick alternator?

Or a slipping fan belt *beware, danger of overheating due to slow water pump, do not pass go, etc*

Many thanks for that - well I have a spare one of those (no - I don't wear Pretty Polly tights!).
Must admit - throttle has been a bit lumpy around 2500rpm in recent days . . .

Maybe Fuse Link gone.
The car will suddenly die on you for no apparent reason, and you will think it is the alternator.

Check this first, it is by the starter motor, underneath the car on the chassis rail.

OK - to confirm - battery voltage was lower than usual (running down) no voltage across the alternator fuse - replaced and it works fine. tada . .
See Bible (version 2) P. 237
