Hi all,
Have just had the Chimaera serviced (24k) and the engine is now running badly. Have taken it back to the garage for a check but they couldn't find anything wrong.
It feels like a fueling problem - occurring at light throttle, right throughout the rev range, i.e. even at a steady 70 on the motorway.
Is it possible to tune these engines yourself or do you need the whole computer hook-up kit. If not, does anyone know of a good tuner in the S.Wales, Bristol area?

Yes I could.
Does Mark Adams do a tweaking service as well. I had thought that he just did the upgrade tuning work which I understand may cause problems with insurance etc. I'm not after more power, just want the thing to run correctly.
Cheers, Matt

i just had my chim 430 fully serviced and i mean everything, and when i got it back from the harrogate experts! it started up and sounded and felt dreadful. they looked at it there and then and shrugged their shoulders saying chims are lumpy. thing is its tickover was perfect before its service. they have had it back 3 times , once for a whole week, they said they adjusted all the settings and resealed the parts they undone again, but still its idle is dreadful. thing is when u boot it it drives better than it did before its service. it often ticks over at 750 instead of 1000 revs and it tries to die on u, it also sometimes ticks over at 1500 ! for a few minutes then drops. if u start it up hot it stalls unless u put on the gas. any ideas anyone?

Sounds a bit like a faulty stepper motor to me.

The plugs should have been changed at service but maybe they've upset an HT lead or one of the covers. It runs OK at higher revs though - that's why I think it's an fuel / air mix problem.

Brushy,
This sounds exactly the same as mine. The pickup and acceleration are noticeably better but idle speeds are pretty variable.
I also get a flat spot and then lurch when accelerating after over-run. I also can't hold a constant rev in neutral; the engine speeds slowly oscillates up and down constantly.

If the stepper motor is OK, have the ECU checked for error codes.

If the ECU has picked up an error, does it light the MIL light on the dashboard, or only under certain conditions?

No. MIL light is usually not connected or disabled.
