What size socket is required to remove the stepper motor as I need to buy one at Halfwits.

Spanner is the better option, can't remember the size sorry (although 36mm rings a bell)

A decent halfwits should let you check

IIRC 32mm, but it could be 34 to know TVR.

I personally use a pair of parrot grips with tapped jaws, shouldn't be tight to undo and shouldn't need much more the slightly over hand tight to seal.

I'd love to take you up on the offer but can't use the car until I sort out a small problem which I believe to be the s/m.

Use a large adjustable type spanner of grips are best - should be too tight anyway, and you shouldn't do it up too tight either.
