Armourfend on rear wings

I've cracked the roof on the boot aperture a couple of times now, and left some nasty marks on the paint. Once I've had it repaired, can anyone see why there's any reason why some Armourfend on the tops of the rear wings wouldn't help to prevent a repeat? And can you get small pieces for self application? Is it even self applicable at all?
