clutch advice

noticed a problem yesterday with my clutch pedal when pressed and released it does not appear to want to return when it does it seems notchy or coming back in three steps did a quick search but could not find this specific problem any ideas would be apprecciated

Whenever my clutch/brakes feel funny, I first check that the floor mat isn't bunched up at the bottom of the footwell and fouling the pedals.
