Disc retro-fitting / upgrading
Discussion
Morning folks,
Whilst searching at Halfwits for the clear side repeaters i noticed some rather nice disc brake upgrades for the Fords and Vauxhall owners. They you could order the same size disc's as the original but these included grooves and / or drilled.
Does anybody know from which manufacture the discs for my 94 400 Chim came from. Are they Vauxhall cavilier as i heard some where or are they ford....if so which ones.
Thanks for any advice

I think from what I have read on here in the past the only way to buy the right brake disc is to take the old one with you(off the car). I believe most were Ford sourced, some of which had to be re-drilled to match TVR stud pattern.
My order of preference would be, a decent Motor Factors, Tescos and then Halfwits. Mind you I would have said the same no matter what you wanted to buy.

They are ford parts, they aren't re-drilled AFAIK
The standard ones are vented (sierra or granada one IIRC) and because the Chim is so much lighter than these, they seem to do a pretty good job
I've done (admittedly only one) track day, was pretty hard on teh brakes and didn't get any fade, even at the end of sessions
I would think that your best path for an upgrade would be a lager diameter disk from one of the TVR tuning companys

Have you considered the upgrade that TVR themselves do? They are selling a kit that, I believe, gives you new brakes as well as 16" Spider wheels with tyres with the 5 studs instead of the standard 4.
Memory not what it used to be and it is Monday morning so have a search around on here as I think there was a review.

All depends. The Granada discs they have used in the past are 5 stud so TVR drill the correct 4 stud pattern. Ordering the Granny disks usally results ion the correct 5 stud version arriving which doesn't fit. There is also a lot of variation where standard parts don't fit. So measure and measure again before parting with that hard earned dosh.

You don't need to change the wheels to get bigger brakes
That depends on just how big you want to go!
The factory kit uses front discs that (I believe) wouldn't fit in the 15" front wheels and so comes with 16"
Peninsula have some upgrade specs on their website, as do some others I'm sure. Have a look and decide how far you want to go!
Cheers,
Andy
285/283mm discs and 4 piston calipers from HiSPEC/Wilwood etc. will fit in 15 inch wheels. I have heard various reports of the next size up, 300mm not fitting/just fitting/being really really tight.
Peninsulas website describes the upgrade options. Easy enough to fit yourself - but make sure you get braided hoses with the right fittings etc. Insurance might want to see an engineers report/charge you more though.
