Magnecor Leads

Two of mine have touched the exhaust manifold and are shorting out causing a misfire. I need two new leads for the 2nd and 3rd cylinders on the right (drivers side) bank.
Can I buy just two leads? And anyone know where from?
Don't really want to buy a whole new set of racing leads.

These leads look like that they are of a better spec/quality etc, but can these alone make any difference to the cars running?
I have no plans for any larger scale tweeks to the cars performance such as the ones from ACT, but if small changes like these can make a difference the worth looking into I'd say.

If the car is a few years old things like the coil, HT leads and plug extenders can start to break up/fail.
Personally I'd change them (and have on my car). But then I'm sad and change things before they break. This is why in 5.5 years of ownership I've never been left stranded or had the car fail to start for me (with the exception of a flat battery - it was dead - new battery and all has been fine for the last 3 years).

Magnecor or ACT will sell you leads seperately I believe.
Note that Magnecor leads are suppressed, ie resistive, and ought to be used with NON-resistive plug extensions (in short supply at the moment - try ACT or Magnecor). If your leads have burnt, are these extensions fitted at all?
The original extensions (Vauxhall part) are 5k ohm resistive. Used in conjunction with resistive leads the car will (probably) run but the coil may fail prematurely.

Coil - a Bosch one from Mark Adams (maybe someone on here has the part no. I don't have it to hand). Apparently the std Lucas ones fail quite regularly (take it off and shake it - if it sounds fluidy wishy washy then it's buggered - not the only way for it to fail though).
Plug extenders - actually a Vauxhall item, but £8ish each. So get them from www.actproducts.co.uk (Tim Lamont is a regular on this forum - forget his nickname).

Glad i started this thread now, but feel a bit of a fraud. Have checked my leads and discovered that the leads are fine - as are the extensions - it's the rubber boots on the end of the lead I need. Presumably these are bog standard and Halfwits will have them?

Having upgraded after 5 years daily use of an S1 last Xmas to 97 4l Chimera I have had a problem with slight hesitation / misfire (lower the revs worse the problem) + comuting 16mpg (24 on a run). Fitted Magnicore leads, changed rotor arm etc as a matter of course but still no better. So bit the bullet and took it to a well reputed rolling road diagnostic wiz. £900 later with rechipped & tuned (bhp increased from 190 to 196 at the wheels) but still misfire and poor fuel. Took it to a local mechanic who looked after the S, who reckons the spark is shorting to the metal heat shields at the end of the plug leads resulting in poor spark & unburnt fuel. The shields are Vauxhaul Cav at £8+ each = £64 the set. So to the point.
Does any one know of an alternative solution as metal shields do not seem to be the best insulator to me? What do the racing boys use? Leaving the shields off is not an option due to proximity of manifold.
PS Had the roof off today, roll on more sunny winter days.

Umm might be a bit of a peasant on this front
, but I run with no Plug extenders (heat shields
) fitted, standard rangie leads which cost 1/4 the price of the gucci ones ;. It just means you replace them 4 times as often and no heat shields to give you the problems IMHO. Problem solved in my book

I replaced the leads and extenders on my Griff earlier this year as a 'precaution'. I'm sure they have made a noticeable difference in that the delivery is far smoother. I'd recommend Tim Lamont (aka Two Sheds) at ACT...he was very informative and helpful and the delivery time was very quick.
You can get all sorts of heat-reflecting / shielding kit from places like Demon Tweeks and agriemach (www.agriemach.co.uk). I'm going to play with some heat-reflective sheating around the plug ends of the HT leads - but this will be in addition to the extensions, which, although are an extra potential to go wrong, and are a pain to remove, are reckoned by the experts to be essential.

The extenders are less than half that price from Tim at ACT. The first set 'lasted' 7 years in my car (i.e. they didn't exactly allow the car to let me down). Replacing them as a matter of course, say, every 5 years should not break the bank.
