Fellow Chim owners.
Don't know if you are intersted. I just have my 96'Chim 500 dyno tested over the weekend. Quite a surprising result. 302PS is about 298BHP and 450 odd Nm is around 330 lbft torque.

were you susprised in a good or bad way. I am thinking it's not bad, if you have had no engine work done, for a 12 year old car.

I and the mechanic, who has been looking after this car in Hong Kong for the past 12 years, were very happy with the result. The engine is absolutely stock with no modification and has 54000km around 32000miles. The only work that will have any effect on this test is that my car has been de-cat (both pre and main cats has been removed). The Dyno is also accurate as all the other cars (Porsches and Evos) managed very near to their expected results.

That's an excellent result!

Weather in HK at the moment seems to be low-mid 20s, which shouldn't have a major effect.

Wow! You must be really happy with that for a stock 500. smile

Im always reluctant to dyno mine in case I'll be disappointed by the results and feel the need to supercharge it or something silly like that. idea

I am chuff to bits with those figures. The pretty standard 3-5 years old Evos were registering around 260PS and about 300Nm torque on that dyno.

If I wasn't going to do some engine work (X'mas present to myself that I can hide the spending as the missus has just ban me from buying my dream Ferrari) on the car and want to know the before and after figures. So I can quantify the GBP spent vs BHP and lbft gain. I would not be on the Dyno. I used to rather spent the money on petrol and enjoy the actual driving instead.

Mind you, back of my mind I knew the figures should not be too bad. We do have a few drive days and this Chim can easily out accerlate Evos (some have work done on engine and Ecus) and pass them with ease.

That figure is very high for a standard 5.0 .. from memory - most in the UK would be around 270 bhp and 300 ft lbs ..

but I'm sure Vixpy and Trackcar will be along shortly to put me right.

I think it's widely regarded that these engines never make 300hp without some tuning mods. I don't suppose removing the Cats would would make more than a few extra hp. It has been discused on the Griff forum that some engines were modified at the factory when new. Although I thought this mainly applieed to a few early Griff 500s.

My internally standard 1998 Griff500 made 302bhp with a perfectly shaped power curve so there are some standard cars making the numbers - just luck of the draw I guess?!

Nice result also. thumbup

Trouble is the numbers are supposed to be 340bhp / 350lb ft!

Is this not a case of some dynos over reading!
It is a fact that not all dynos are the same.
I agree that a standard 500 should be about 270bhp.
Acording to Crazy Horses dyno, they have seen differances of about 80 horses inbetween dynos on high performance cars.
Enjoy your car but take dyno figures with a pinch of salts.
By the way, mine is less than yours!

This is very true and I was much happier with the shape of the curve than the numbers on the Y axis.

That said, the variety of hand production has certainly produced some under performing cars and by the same statistical anomaly, some over performing cars too. Mine was an ex-demonstrator for a one of the best established main dealers and the road used was down at Dulford and despite my protestations that it was over reading I was absolutely assured by people I trust that there's no reason to doubt it. Maybe sometimes things aren't necessarily too good to be true? Like we said - it's still 20bhp light right smile

Hi dhf
There are now 7 tunnels in HK. The sound is absolutely amazing. I can never resist dropping down a gear and blast through these tunnels. One on TVR car club member regularly visits us here. He love us taking him through those tunnels.
Sorry I don't have any video on that. However, I took one when the chim was flat out on the airport express way at 3:30am. The clock showed over 270km/hrs. Unfortunitely this is on my old video recorder which is broken. Don't even know if they still use it.
dhf, you seem to know HK well. When were you here? Will you be visiting again. If you do, please drop me a note. TVR owners here love to play host and if schedule permits, we will organise a morning drive with you.
Regards
Winston

My standard chim 4.5, 2000, 35000, got 237 at 5300rpm on the dyno earlier this year.

For reference.
