The boot on my 96 P Chim has decided not to shut.

Pressing the buttn to release it is still making the usual noise. But pushing the boot down, it doesn't seem to catch.

I used a screwdriver to press the metal "hook" down that catched the boot, but it keeps flicking up, it doesnt seem to catch and shut.

Any ideas? Is this a common fault??

Cheers

Had a similar thing on mine, if the 'bolt' on the bootlid bit of the lock has moved a little, it's on slots, then it doesn't engage in the latch, loosen the 2 nuts and move it a little and see if that makes any difference, I also found that putting some gaffer tape around the bolt to increase it's diameter helped as well

The motor or cable can seize, it stops the catch from returning.

I had this myself a while back..for no reason it just wouldnt close.
After some advice from a very knowlegable person ( ),I adjusted the actual catch on the boot lid.
They do tend to move on the odd occasion but the adjustment has to be spot on. If its not, the boot will leak.

Tonyrec - there has been a leak in the boot since I have owned the car. So maybe this will be a cure?

Thinking back, the last time I shut the boot, the boot was full of piled high 2 weeks worth of honeymoon clothes I was taking to my mum to iron for us (mothers eh? bless em ) so that may of knocked the alignment out?? and I mena piled HIGH.....

you will probably need to pull away the carpet at the back off the passenger side of the boot (next to the light cluster)
You should then be able to see the solenoid - it's probably stuck - a bit of wiggling, oil, etc can probably get it to work in the short term - although you probably need to replace it

Replaced the solenoid on my chimaera a while back, it took about 30 mins and cost less than £20
