Engine miss fire on start up
Discussion
Mines not to bad since i changed the leads and gave everything a good spray of WD40 seems to help this time of year. I did all the usuall items leads, plug extenders, dizzy cap (but cleaned aswell) and also all of the electrical plugs and connections that are exposed.
This may help, although mine didn't seem to miss at any time anyway.

I have a '94 4.3 and it is almost undrivable when first started. If I open the trottle it seems to choke-up. However, after a few minutes it's fine. I don't know if it is related, but recently, the revs seem to take ages to settle back down to tickover. I have new plugs, cables, disti cap, rotor arm and a very clean stepper motor.
Think I will watch this thread and see what there is to learn...

How often do you guys drive yours?
Our '96 4.0 drives perfectly from cold on every occasion with 1 exception.
If it is left for more than a couple of days it is a right miserable git, it's lumpy for the first mile but then gets back to normal, I swear blind it sulks if left too long.

With the std fuelling chip these engines run VERY rich when cold starting. This makes them generally lumpy for the first few minutes driving. A Mark Adams Tornado chip/tuneup sort this out - my car is smooooooth from startup now.
The extra rich mixture is also why you can't restart sometimes if you stall reversing out of your driveway or whatever. They flood very easily - a warning to new owners coming up to their first cold weather - don't touch the throttle as you restart after a cold stall.
(BTW, a lot of cars have a similar problem - even my A6 has flooded in this way).

Hi Guys, Glad to see that there is a common thread!!
I picked up mine on Friday last week and it does seem to run lumpy until it is warm and then its smooth as silk... I'll clean the dizzy and plugs and have read a few threads on stepper motors too so it may need a clean out.. I had a wedge prior to this and I cant believe the difference, this one has brakes for a start!! and handles like a dream....
