Guys,

It would appear that i have a rear caliper that sometimes fails to release completely resulting in the brakes remaining slightly applied. I noticed this when the car stopped rolling a hill without using the brakes - Kinda annoying in a traffic jam.

Looking at the TVR shop - the calipers are pretty pricey items.

Are they a TVR special part or is there an alternative? I dont want to get into any mods just a straight swapout....

Thanks

Sorry did not RTFQ but this a very easy job not many moving parts involved and by far the cheapist
alot of people are put of touching brakes but there is very little to them i have done about 3 sets on previous cars and it a nothing job to do i have had mine shot blasted before i started the job gives me a chance to paint them while i am at it. just somthing to think about

Cheers Scotty

As Scott says - take them apart (you don't even need to fully remove from the car) and re-grease all the moving parts and renew the seals. Easy job and pretty cheap as well.

don't forget that the rear calipers have wind in/out pistons, ISTR a chap on here used an angle grinder key to shift them....

forgot to say there was a thread a few weeks ago about that, you can buy a wind in tool from halfords for like 14 quid

I would like to do this job too (replace seals) and overhaul, but am worried that it's really difficult to get the pistons back in, and if they aren't leaking then maybe it's best to leave the pistons be and just clean and grease where necessary.

Is it actually the case that it's not difficult to get the pistons back in once calliper has been disassembled?

Yup they hold the key in the piston grooves allowing you to wind it in. I have used an angle grinder key before, however it did result in grazed knuckles.

Have done them with the points of some long nosed pliers in the peg holes and an adjustable wrench to apply the torque - would love to see an exploded view of one of these types of caliper; have never understood why they have to be wound back in but pump straight out...
