The boot on my 98 Chim 450 has decided not to engage with the lock/latch anymore, which means my boot is permenantly half open, and never locked! I have tried to fix it by moving the top part down further by loosening the bolts, but to no avail.
Does anyone know if the locking mechanism is a standard part, or would I need to wait agges before I could find a replacement? This seems a really simple little problem,,, but it's so annoying!!, and it passed it's MOT with flying colours last week too!!!!

Thanks for that Drum , I may phone a few TVR garages up as well tomorrow, I just need a new locking/latch mechanism, looks easy enough to change, I guess it's just finding the right parts!

I don't quite get what you mean??, Is the boot shutting but the latch is not clicking over it to keep it down??
If so I think it is the solenoid (sp) that is playing up. Mine has done it on a few occasions. If you pull back the carpet on the drivers side of the latch you will see the solenoid with a little bit of cable going to the latch, give the cable a gently pull and it should free up the solenoid allowing your boot to shut!! If this is the problem then once freed up close the latch by hand i.e. screwdriver then check it opens again with the button.
hope this helps
cheers
Rich

Chris - Had the same problem with mine, and the fix was simple in my case.

The cover below the latch which pulls out to reveal the opening mechanism had got bent inwards, and this was stopping the latch working properly, a slight bending adjustment later, it works fine! Hope that helps.

Cheers

I had a similar problem in the past, in that although it was engaging it wasn't doing so properly and once you got the hang of it you could open the boot without pressing the release button. It turned out to not be a problem with either the catch or the height of the rod that engages with it. Rather, it was that the top part wasn't quite aligned properly, side-to-side. It went into the latch OK, but needed to be more to one side of the gap in the latch. Moving it by trial and error (lie in the boot and get someone else to shut you in whilst you adjust it) fixed the problem. It also gave everone else a good source of comedy, but that's another tale...

Thank you for the (as always) great replies guys
I shall try out some of your suggestions tomorrow, and see if I can solve this prob with the boot latch,,, it's always nice to know that there are others who have had the same problems.
On a positive note, I have now had this car just over a year, and it has, thus far, never failed to start, had it's 6000 mile service without a hitch and flew passed it's MOT, so I guess I can't grumble too much, as it's been more reliable than the MGZR160 we bought from new at the same time I bought the Chim!!
