Chimaera Insurance - again
Discussion
Is it my imagination or is it getting harder to insure a TVR Chimaera? It would appear the test pilots have been out there re-arranging the scenery and generally making life difficult to get a decent quote.
Has anyone got any recommendations other than the usual suspects:
Sunninghill - Peart - Mannings - Classicline - Tesco - ATS - Zurich - Direct Line.
Rumour has it Norwich Union do a TVR scheme(may have stopped), any details anyone?

I have just changed from sunninghill to classic line and it has halved my premium, it includes free breakdown cover and european driving as well as official trackday cover ,well impressed
This insurance lark does not make a lot of sense. Classic line quoted me £15 more (for 5000 miles) than Sunninghill (for 6000 miles), the big difference being no "driving other cars" cover with classicline. A London postcode does not do you any favours when it comes to car insurance!

I've recently changed from Sunninghill to Classic Line and saved a packet. Sunninghill policies have rocketed this year due to a high level of claims.
Interestingly I deduce that it's the insurance companies who dictate which brokers are to receive the best commission rates are consequently most competitive quotes. - I'm now insured through Classic Line with the same insurance company who were quoting #300 more for my renewal with Sunninghill.

I tried to insure all 3 of my cars on the same insurance this year, of course no one would, so I ended up shopping around and have three different insurers, finding the best policy for each car. I insure the Chimaera with Classic Line £430, the XJR with Tesco £530 and the XJS with AON £450, I am 36 with a DN22 post code and full protected no claims.
It is not as if it is not all underwritten by Lloyds, so why do we have such a debacle and complete rip off for insurance?

The level of stupidity with this insurance thing is beyond belief. My mum lives in the same post code as I do(first part) but different second part of post code, she lives in the next road. On line quotes for the two houses differ!
I realise they could say that statistics show her road is safer but I think it is total boll**ks. Most claims are made by people driving cars how can a quote for two roads next to each other differ.

Do they just make them up, or is there some logic behind these widely varying quotes?

That says it all. Charge as much as you can get away with, if it does not work reduce quote until it does.
I have rung Mannings for the last two years, each time they have adopted a strange attitude, almost that someone should not even question what they quote. They also insist on joining the owners club as a condition on them ALLOWING you to insure with them, effectively adding £40 to the premium! I wonder if it may have to occured to them that they may be losing business adopting this attitude, or are they above that?

just dug this up from the archives... posting to say Classic Line insurance are by far the best, not just on cost but Darren there is very very helpful... got mine down from £1786 to £785 yes you read right £1001 less!!!
Chap at Mannings needs to do a course on 'how not to irritate potential customers'!
I called Norwich Union direct to tell them not to implement my renewal tomorrow (the £1786) and the guy kept me waiting on the phone ages, even though I said 'look, just cancel it, I'm busy, call me back if necessary' he then tells me to send back all the documents - I said no way - he said it was an offence not to - I laughed & finally hung up... an offence not to return a renwal notice for a policy that hasn't even started yet!!! I should ring his manager and complain but I'll only be kept on hold for an hour...

I say again - use Classicline

Have pretty much settled for Sunninghill, the only sensible quote with Driving Other Cars included. Had it not been for the DOC bit then classicline were the best.

That's very interesting as I just reviewed my policy docs with Sunninghill to discover to my horror that I'm not insured to drive other cars.
I called them up to ask whether I could pay extra for this extension (I've had it ever since i was 21) and was told that it was impossible to find on a chimaera policy, as the view is that they are generally second cars....
Who did you deal with there?!
Cheers
Surprised no-one has mentioned Livrpool Victoria. Cheapest for me, taking £250 off my last years premium (Peart). Tel 0800 404014 www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk
I've got an excel file with all my quotes on it (I had a lot of time on my hands at the time!). If anyone wants the details just email me through my profile.
