If money was no object what would be the best tyres to fit to an early Chimaera?

Money no object maybe A048s for the track, Yellow PZeros for the summer and F1 GS-D3s for the winter for a start.

I love GS-D3s but have you tried them in the snow?

The rest of the year they are fantastic IMHO.

Yes I have thanks, makes for a few interesting moments. Fortunately we don't get much snow.

Hard to beat Bridgestone SO2 PPs if you can get them IMO.

I had GSD2's (on the Supra) in the snow earlier this year

Had to walk to work one day because I couldn't get out of the end of the road

Got GSD3's on the back now.

Last weekend and the rain that came with it enforced my opinion that I don't like Bridgestones in the wet.

My 500 has So2s on the front and SO3s on the rear and to say I'm not impressed is an understatement. Bit of a shame really as in those conditions you need a tyre you can rely on and predict its characteristics.

Without doubt the best all round tyre I've found is the GY Eagle F1 GS-D3. I can get them for under £100 a corner and it wears well too!

TT Tim - I wouldn't mix tyres on a performance car - all SO2 PPs - brilliant in the dry and the wet IMO.

Mind you being a good driver helps too - witness the difference in F1 drivers when it rains. Rain sorts the men from the boys.

PS The last set of SO2 PPs cost me £55 each for fronts and £80 each for the rears.

TT Tim.. I'm also suprised by your comments!

Do you have the PP's or just the Standard S0 Tyre.. I have SO2 PP's all round and they seem excellent in wet or dry.

Cheers,
Matt.

thanks for that.

I consider myself to be a good driver. I've done my share of track time in both front and rear wheel drive cars as well as running a single seater championship in 2000

You're right, out of preference I wouldn't mix tyre types but that's how the car came to me and I've only had it just over a month.

The Bridgestones have been discussed in great length on other forums I frequent. On the Zed the bias was towards Toyo proxys lately but several people have commented on teh unpredictable handeling of SO3s in the wet.

I will say that I'm not 100% happy with the current set up of the car, I think the geometry is all wrong.

I'll reserve my final judgement until after I've had that checked.

Failing that does anyone want a pair of rear SO3s and front SO2? They'll be going cheap.

Avon A38 slicks. They would last about 15 minutes but what a 15 minutes.
