I'm 3 weeks into owing my first TVR (A chimaera 450, 97). Am I just about to experience the lesser delights of a hand built car, I ask myself? When the engine has warmed up after a mile or so, I get a rubbery squeaking noise from the power steering , it sounds very close to the cabin. Has anyone had the same problem? Simple solution or time to get the wallet out? Thanks for any comments/pointers in advance.

Are you sure it's the PAS ? Does it happen at any degree of turn or just full lock ? Hopefully it's not the pump (expensive) or the rack (v. expensive). Have you got a warranty ? The PAS pump failed on my 95 Chimaera 400, quite suddenly and without any noises, although the engine did have to be warm before the PAS worked properly. Check to see that there's plenty of fluid in the PAS resevoir (back of offside cylinder head). Dr C

I only have to turn the steering wheel a very small amount - 1/16 of lock back and forth. The sound is like two pieces of rubber being twisted against each other. Imagine there was a bit of water between the rubber and that would sum up the sound perfectly. Thanks for your comments Dr C

HI, I have a complete PAS system for sale if you need any parts. I brought it to update my non PAS Chimaera but I ended up selling the car before I had time to fit it. Email duncan.fraser@eibach.co.uk Thanks Duncan
