Anyone knows if the Lucas 20AM airflow meter from an X300 Jaguar (pat nr. LHE 1620AA) is functionally identical to/compatible with the Land Rover 4.6 part (ERR 5595A) or otherwise suitable as an upgrade to the 5AM in our cars? And yes, I know the ECU will need remapping...

I don't know about the 20AM, but the 5AM from a Jaguar XJ40 (DBC10852) works as a substitute for the Land Rover 5AM (ERR5198) and it's much cheaper, so why not give it a go?

If you can get hold of one, I dont mind bench testing to see how it compares for you or if the electronics is similar you might be able to make the outputs match the 5AM. Ive got 3 off 5AMS that have been bored by 5mm (this is about a 20% increase in cross sectional area) out for test at the moment so see if there are any real gains.

... but does that one flow better than the RR one?

About to have mine bored out very soon! Just changed over to the 72mm plenum. Keep us posted on this one.

Yep, have had the 72 mm plenum on for a while now but find it doesn't do much for me as long as the ol'5AM is in front of it... hehe Will be going to a ported 45 mm intake and trumpets of some description, too - that, or someone must have a twin or triple carbon plenum going...

Ported inlet and 45mm trumpets makes a big difference. The weakest link in my chain now is the AFM! Trying to resist the huge bosch one.

Sadly the Jaguar and Range Rover versions are different. It is possible to use either version, but the Range Rover item gives the best results.

By the way - what's with all the pattern parts offered? To be dismissed as sh*te as a matter of course, or at least a reasonable alternative to a secondhand genuine one?

It looks physically identical so I would expect so. Maybe the electronics are different? The DBC10852 I have has a blank where the trim pot is on the ERR5198.

So that would make it a replacement, not an upgrade?

You might want me to recalibrate it for you if you do, as lower airflows over the hot wire reduce the voltage output, so the car will run lean. Other wise you can get Mark Adams to rechip. Dont just plug and play !

There's an outfit specializing in RV8s that sells bored out 5AM AMMs on eBay and claims it's a direct replacement - any odds on whether they bothered to rescale the voltage output?
