I got my Chim on Saturday but it came with no owners manual.
Is the manual available online? or just some simple guides to checking and topping up the fluids and tyre pressures, etc, etc?

Cheers

bless you

so unsuspectng....

the owners manual is just a seed in your imagination....

what you really need is lots of luck more than anything else.

and a big wallet

you have yet to:

live with an idle that is perfect in other vehicles (RR) but with moods now.
under bonnet heat that Hades try to replicate.
MOT foibles that some testers understand but others think are the devils' work.
doors that don't open fully, unless you are a midget or have size three feet.
A drivers door from hell, with electrics that are connected with blue cheese and a mirror that is impossible to replace without the assistance of a left-handed chimpanzee (from a citroen CX on which can be changed in 20 mins by the way)
stepper motor system that doesn't know it is a system.
burnt wrists

there are plus sizes too though, but I only drive Teetertanks' when it needs fixing (which s regular)or converting to LPG. I'm old and inflexible (physically size 9 shoe and it has given me grief all day...

but the road was dry (won't drive it in the wet)and I had to check FULL POWER to compare petrol and LPG!!!!!!!!!

Wow!

Oh I forgot to mention:

car parks in general
speed bumps
tube station car parks
kerbs... keep an eye on them incase the dreaded idle catches you out, better to hold up all the traffic than go up a high one...

The best thing since you became the proud owner is to post your first on this forum! You gonna need it but anything you need to know, and I mean anything...

Clueless, I have a couple of scanned manuals from different eras. Email me your email details and I'll forward the copy nearest your car's age (let me know the year).

For more background though use this forum,as suggested, and get a copy of the Chim/Grif Bible (see http://www.tvrbooks.co.uk/)

The car I have must be something else than a Chimaera then as I've got none of the issues listed above. wink

Clueless,

I have scanned pages from the Handbook that comes with the car.
The black leather bound book with general information.

This is for a 1998 Chimaera.

If you want these drop me an e-mail and I'll send them through.

Hi All
Does anyone have a scan of an early Chimaera owners manual? Mine came with a faded and dog eared photocopy of a later car!
If not does anyone have one near Newbury I could borrow for a day to copy (after the lockdown of course!)
Cheers

Hi All
No update so I have scanned in and OCRed my 1997 photocopy and made an MS word version which I will print and put into an old Filofax.
I will edit it for the differences between modes, but so far, it is looking pretty good so far.

A couple of questions.
What are the dimensions of the pages in the Chimaera Filofax style manual? I am guessing it is smaller than A5?

Does anyone know that the font is that is used? I have used Tahoma as the closest I can find!

Thanks!

Sir Paolo

Hi and welcome to TVR ownership.

As already mentioned, you will find a wealth of knowledge on here from other owners who have had the experience of wallet and knuckle damage to assist you.

For much engine service work, I’d recommend you invest in a Haynes Land Rover Discovery manual.
Covering V8 of course (up to 1998).

Good luck

Welcome to the wonderful world of owning a TVR Chimaera

Forget Mr & Mrs Doom & Gloom, owning a Chim is just fine if you have been careful with your purchase and just keep on top of the basics.

Purchasing 'The Bible, by Steve Heath' is a must.

You will love it - lots of info on this site.

I am making great progress using google. It just appeals to me to recreate the manual as it was when I first owned the car!

The Handbook that comes with the car is on heavy card, probably upwards of 150gm/sq m, and the dimensions are 171mm tall by 101mm wide, though as anyone who has had a Chimaera for a while knows, that is probably an imperial size in reality. whistle

The Steve Heath manual is a good book, especially if yours is an earlier car.

The issues - the fuse box layout seems to be different on every single car.

They are a great car to work on yourself, you can see most things in the engine bay, there are no silly plastic engine covers, and you aren't plagued by modern car electronics on the whole. I actually had to scrap a perfectly decent Volvo XC90 because there were too many faulty components on the Canbus network for it to be cost effective to repair to get through the MOT. You won't get that sort of st on a 1990's TVR.

Finally, invest in a good set of imperial spanners. Most engine bolts are imperial being 1950s Buick/1970s Rover, as are things like the seat belt anchor bolts.

Fab, thanks QBee! That is perfect.
As is the TVR way; the page size is not a standard Filofax size.
Personal is 171x95mm
A5 is 210x148mm

So either I cut out some custom sheets or print out on some personal sized refills and reduce the font size on my version.

Once I have a good version and a modded version for my 93 car, I will share with anyone who wants a copy.

I have been getting my fingers a bit dirty though: see: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
