Cruising along at 50 over the QE2 bridge at dartford and the engine cut.Would`nt restart and the tunnel patrol pushed me through the toll(still made me pay a £1!!) and left me on the hard shoulder.AA man tried to start her but she just would`nt fire up.Turning over strong but no fuel pump whine.Tried the blip and it won`t lock.
Does the immobiliser have anything to do with the fuel pump? Strange that it just died so suddenly and now the pump makes no noise and the blip lock won`t operate.Any suggestions would be appreciated before i shell out for a man that can.
Cheers
Unlucky Al.

Yes,

The immobiliser has everything to do with the fuel pump. You should have a push in immobiliser "key" that fits a receiver on the steering column shroud. This will deactivate the immobiliser so you can see if this is the problem. Your blipper probably just needs a new battery.

Tried it all ways. Push in part cuts out the flashing light to enable the engine to turn over. Tried both blips, one of which has a new battery.
Just can`t work out if the fuel pump is shot or if the blip is affecting it.Very strange that the blip won`t work but the push in part does even though it won`t allow the fuel pump to operate.Very strange and bloody frustrating.
AA 4th emergency service! Pah, nearly 2 hours on the hard shoulder.

..could be allsorts I'm afriad.. including the connectors to the Fuel Pump itself. Was it a damp and moisture ridden morning..? I'm guessing its a contact somewhere..

Bad luck.

Just a thought...

Could it be the ECU/airflow meters? When the engine kept cutting out on my chim I initially thought it was either the immobiliser playing up or a fuel-related mechanical problem. In the end it turned out to be a faulty ECU and was replaced with a new one. Since then everything has been fine.

The difference being, however, each time the engine cut out (or lost power) you could restart it again straight away.

Hi,

Had a similar problem a week ago. Mine's a 94 Chim and just cut out whilst driving - tried to restart but no fuel pump buzz, after checking everything, fuses, relay, connectors etc etc it turned out to be the microswitch that works the central locking and alarm on the door locks. This wil only be the case if your's is an older car with the key type door locks.

Don't use the 'really great indie' i used total rip off no names but i live in Wordsley?

Ok guys, stop worryin. Naughty little chim is being picked up by lorry tomorrow morning and going to maidstone for a good telling off! Just spent ten minutes explaining the embarrassment she`s gonna feel being on the back of a truck for the second time in three days! That oughta sort her out.Very bad car.
Thanks anyway people.
Slightly happier Al.

..its not the lock, its the little switch below the sill that checks that the door is closed (and operates the courtesy light) you should have these on your T99

Cheers

mine was the micro switch mounted just within the door lock - ie as you press the lock down and turn to operate the alarm etc.

Cheers

Well if the AA couldn't get it going it probably isn't something simple (sorry).

Hopefully it's something 'simple' like a relay or fuel pump failure or some kind.

Keeping my fingers crossed x.

Edited to say: It's the best colour to be sat at the side of the road in too

Maybe it will turn out to be something simple (and cheap) like the electrical connection on the fuel pump itself? Or maybe the relay that controls it? In theory the AA chap should have checked these?
Easiest way to check if the fuel pump is dead is to run a live and earth supply direct.
Good luck,

Ivan

Not the fuse link is it?

They usually blow and the first thing you know about it is the car dies.

The bu99er won't restart then

It is positioned on the chassis under the starter motor.

Might be worth a look.
