Dyno plots and 500s
Discussion
I've just had my 500 Serviced and Dyno'd by Austec, and am now armed with the printouts.
Paul has told me that the power is down on mine, probabally due to cam wear, but it does seem miles away from TVR quoted figues (yes, I know these figures are exagerated) and very low at the wheels.
I'd be interested to see other Austec graphs so as to compare. What is realistically being produced.
Hopefully I'll be going for an uprated Kent cam in Feb but until then...

...But until then you will still blow most other cars on the road in to the weeds.
Cup is half full remember.
I know Mark, it's still blisteringly quick, hit 140ish on my way home today, it's just now that I know it's not right...
Tim
OK, I see now, Rolling road outputs can never be treated as gospel, they vary a hell of a lot.
I tested mine at a reputable establishment and got 275bhp and 300lbs/ft, not very good considering the work done.
I know the ambient was 35 degrees and the transmission temps were off the scale but the car pulls like a missile and certainly feels a lot more 'grunty' than the figures suggest. I'll be taking it back on a cooler day to see what it can produce.

Tim its not too bad, admit the tourue curve is a bit steep, but if it drives well and your happy surely thats all that matters ![]()
Now there you have it, it's very odd but the car feels slower, I know it's diffucult to test given the atrocious weather at the moment, but it just doesn't feel as torquee (sp?). Althought there's still the copious grunt in 5th from 80 right up to incarceration speeds.
Tim
Tim power at wheels doesn't seem a million miles away for a 5ltr, the torque looks a bit too peakish to me, should perhaps be a bit more of a plateau, AIMHO.
Re replacing the cam in Feb, what kent cam you going for
. I'm assuming you've already made up your mind on kent then, if not do a search on cams, there are a lot of differt 'threads/posts on the very subject that may help you make a choice

No, I haven't decided on which cam for certain, having spoken to Mike today he offered me 3 kent cams, from mild to wild, Proviosionally I opted for the middle ground.
I will do some reasearch, and I'd welcome any first hand experience that anyone has.
Kent seems to be the cam capital of the UK, Piper Cams is 5 mins down the road in Ashford and Kent Cams about 15 mins in Folkestone.

....Tim
Tim can you remember the grind numbers for the Kent cams 214/218/224/234
, assuming you're sticking with hydraulic lifters. Harry
Nope, sorry. but yes I'm sticking with hydraulic lifters.
The description was keeping bottom end smooth and tractable whilst improving mid-top.
I didn't go into duration etc.
This was easy when I built my first V8, pulled it out of an old P6, machined the pistons to take unleaded as it was a 10.5:1 lump, stick in a nice new Piper cam and hey presto 15bhp extra.
