Think this might of been covered before so apologies but... What causes this to happen. Heat / cable thickness / Starter, etc??

I am doing a body off so can change anything at all at this stage so would appreciate not having this problem again. Never done it on the car in 6 years then all of a sudden started.

I have seen the modwise kit but what does this actually do??

Thanks

Neal

I have had my chim 7 years now, (it was three years old when I bought it), but a year ago I had the hot start problem.
In my experience it seems to be the heat which turns the greese in the starter solenoid to jelly, this causes more friction and when the engine is warm it is enough to jam the starter solenoid.

I took my starter motor apart and cleaned it up, regreesed the solenoid with high melting point greese and all has been fine since. smile

I've heard that it can be a very early sign of Immobiliser problems.

Hot start kit will fix it for a few years, as it pulls the full current through to the starter, but eventually the immobiliser may go.

I had a new starter, didn't cure it.
Had a heat shield fitted around the starter which seemed to cure it but as an additional fix had the hot start mod. This was about 3 years ago.

Then this year the immobiliser packed up. Apparently immobiliser problems can start to show as hot start issues then as the relay burns out it becomes apparent that the immobiliser is on the way out.

So the hot start kit and an upgraded of the META immobiliser should fix the problem.

The mod replaces the relay that TVR left out. Lots of info on here if you do a search.

Yup, TVR thought it didn't need the relay, but it does. Modwise kit's a gud'n backed up by excellent service/advice.
