probably answered a lot of times but could not find a thread.

Other thing with my recently bought Chim is that the speedo reads zero when driving slow (eg to park) - any ideas?

I've tried a number of times to decipher the title of this thread...

Any clues as to what it should be?

Can't think so, given that's intended to be used so close to paintwork. All it does is lower the freezing point so anything above that melts. Alcohol-based perhaps?

Chances are it's not going to strip paint on contact, but I'd try to aim it at the winscreen rather than the middle of the bonnet

Can't see a problem with de icer, but bought a can of stuff from Halford which was supposed to be applied the night before to avoid icing and this carried a warning that it could damage paintwork!

I had heard that de-icer can damage paint although I guess you'd have to use a lot of it!

Best bet is cold water from the tap, de-ices the windows in seconds, and a damn sight cheaper.

Errr possibly. But also tends to refreeze immediately too

Well as tried on the Clio last night, blanket wrapped around the windscreen and tucked in the doors, everyone else was scrapping away this morning, racegirl was off in seconds

Only if it's really cold, we don't get that often down here. Keep the wipers on and the front won't ice up again, obviously if it's icy then it's not raining so the roof will be off so that's the back sorted and put the windows down. Job done

Take care not to crack the plastic on the back 'window' if it's ice covered and you fold it!

I know. My hood already has a miniscule pin prick of a hole, my next rear screen will be zip out so that problem won't apply

Hey, if you can remove it altogether couldn't you use glass instead, a la Tuscan? I suppose it would be impossible to fix though, bugger.

Too curved at the edges.

I would be more concerned that de-icer would damage the hood. Staining etc.

As for zip out rear window. If you're recovering the roof at the same time then it's worth fitting an MX5 unit. That is a solid window with zip and defrost. It would require a redesign of the rear section though because the MX5 window is smaller.

Hopefully just the plastic section will simply be replaced, but instead of stitched it'll be zipped. Also it won't be zipped all the way round - too fiddly methinks, I hope to have the bottom edge still attached so that when unzipped the plastic lays down inside the car on the rear shelf.

Not giving away too many patent secrets here am I???

Mark, so I guess you mean zipped up one side, along the top and down the other side leaving the bottom stitched. I can see that this would prevent water getting in and still keep it looking 'normal' from the outside to the untrained eye!

Souunds like a good idea to me, so I'll wait to get mine replaced.

Well it's not letting the water in so it'll do for now, although it is a bummer everytime I look at the lovely car and zero in on the little bits I want to change. I guess we all do that though!.
