Problem that started yesterday on the passenger door is that it is difficult to shut. Needs a reasonably hard push to engage on the locking mechanism and then a firm push to close completely.

Any one got any ideas before I have a look? I know how to get at the lock/door opening mechanism but not after that....

Thanks

Hi

I recently bought a 96 Chim and the passenger door was a right bugger to shut, the good thing is it is really easy to sort with an allen key. The whole lock assembly should'nt need to be touched, so long as the 3 allen keys are nice and tight. The soleniods and lock assembly are inside the rear wing, (accessible via a handy velcro carpet panel near the seat belt housing,) worth a quick bit of spray grease on the moving bits..

The adjustment comes with the striker plate on the door itself sounds like yours is needing adjustment outwards as the door is trying to be squashed too far into the bodywork.. It will only need a tiny bit of adjustment to close with a fairly small amount of effort and not stand proud of the bodywork!...

that should sort it out!..

Had a look at the striker plate on the door and it is securely in place - pretty sure it hasn't moved. Any other suggestions?

TIA

hi Alex,

It is hasnt moved visibly then slacken it off and allow it to be adjusted a couple of millimeters in or out dependant on the problem , Move In to cure a rattly door i.e not shut properly, & Move Out to cure a difficult to close one..

Mine looked like they had been set wrong since they left the factory.. as i doubt they have moved either no doubt a few years of 'bedding in' took its toll.

if that doesnt work dont know what to suggest!!
cheers

Alex, This may sound a bit mad but make sure the roof has been put back in correctly I once incorrectly put mine back and it caused the door alignment to skew. Thought it might be worth mentioning.
