Tyres.

Which tyres out of the following would you suggest would be the best for my 1993 4 litre Chimaera?
No powere steering.

Toyo Proxes T1-S.
SO3's
Eagle F1 GSD2.

Car is only used on the road, no track days etc.

Any other suggestions on which tyres you've had experiences with good or bad.

I can add a don't choose and that's Pirelli P6000.

I was advised to find a tyre where I could put the same on all 4 corners. After fitting the Pirellis they seem to be just a little over size and as such rub on full lock.

With a car that doesn't have great lock in the first place this is a real bind and a waste of £450.

Eagles for me. My Griff 4.0 had these and they were perfectly suited for thrashing around less-than-perefct roads.

Id agree with that not only do they not come in the correct profiles they are crap when compaired to the bridgestone.

i took 2 identical 4ltf chims to mira one with bridgestone and mine with p6000 the difference in wet grip was frightening

I've got Toyos on my car at the moment, and will have to replace the rears pretty soon, so will probably go with more Toyos to keep the same make as the fronts.
There's lots on PH about Toyos not producing Z - rated size for the front, but they do now!

There's only one tyre for your car - Bridgestone SO2 PPs - if you can get them. Simpo's old Griffith now has these on - much much better.

don't know why, but I have just put SO2 PP all round my Chim (500, std wheels) and they are absomuchlylutely lots better than the SO3s they replaced, especially in bad weather.

However, having had a 4.0 with Eagles and a 500 with SO2s, I know which sticks to the average road better - and it ain't the 500. Though the suspension could play a part too I guess.

Yeah - Roly bought a full set of Estoril rims and a full set of new SO2s of me awhile back - nice bloke. He loves that car too!

Can't offer an opinion on the others - except my Chim came with So2's - crap! (waiting for response) but my Chim is shod with Michelin. I would use nothing else, great grip and longevity - hardly a milimetre gone after 8000 miles. And yes I do drive enthusiatically and no I am not a grandad. But I only use it on the road.

FWIW I used to have SO2's on my Chimaera 4.3 before changing to Proxes TX1's - can't recommend the Toyo's enough. Excellent tyre, particularly in the wet. 2/3 price of supposed 'leading' brands yet superior all round performance IMO. I've put Toyo's on the NSX and the handling is simply awsome on these tyres (once they've been scrubbed in!).

I'd recommend this place, very good prices and decent service (lots of max-muppets in the car park though!):

Have you had Bridgestones on your Chim at all? Just wondering if you could give a comparison. The Toyos are supposed to have a softer sidewall than the bridgestones.... and I what you thought of the toyos.

Also..... whereabouts do you get your tyres?

I have these all round on mine.. excellent, and you can still get them around my way for under £100 a corner.

I had so2's on my chim and now have toyo's. I think the toyos are fractionally better than the brigies but i dont think that there is much in it. I got the toyos for a song from a local company after some rangling over the z rating. They quoted me the next rating down and honoured that price with the correct tyres....which was nice of them!!!
Toyos seem to be VERY predicatble and good in the wet too!
