The chim i'm buying has a milky look to the bottom corners of the windscreen . Is this dut to the laminates separating with excess vibrations and has anyone else suffered this problem (WITH THERE CAR OBVIOUSLY)

Hi Mark. Quite a common thing I'm afraid on most Chims. I believe it's something to do with moisture. Mine has a very small amount of this. New screen job to rectify. Make sure your insurance policy covers your windscreen and keep fingers crossed for a non-repairable 'crack' or stone chip - all it'll cost you is the £50 excess and no loss of bonus. p.s - welcome to the world of TVR, post some piccies of your Chim on your profile once you've got it.

Yep.
Moisture getting between the sheets of glass.
It is weakening the screen by unlaminating and is caused by the flexing of the body alowing dampness to enter.
The only cure is to replace the screen. To stop it again I am told to seal around the edge of the glass before fitting with paint (hammerite?).

You can cover it up with a carefully applied piece of thin gloss self-adhesive vinyl - as Valhalla will testify!

If you get the screen replaced due to an "unfortunate" stone impact, make sure you take it somewhere that has dealt with Chims before, as they can do a lot of damage to the interior trim if they don't know what they're doing.

It can take a couple of days to do a perfect job of fitting the new one.

Hi all,

I've just had to bite the bullet and get my screen replaced due to very bad delamination, as already described, together with the fact that it was so badly sealed round the egdes that I was having to sit and watch the rain trickle in while I was driving in the rain!!!!!!

What a difference it has made though. Spoke to Autoglass to get there thoughts and they said they wouldn't go near it as it's so damn difficult and that as it takes so long it would actually cost them to fit it, ie make no profit doing it.

I had it done via Fernhurst as they have one guy who does all their screens.

Supply was iffy when I had mine done.

Also at Fernies, it seems they had a whole batch of duff screens, I think they used about 6 to get the job done porperly in the end. Not helped by the fact that they tried a new sealant and the bloody stuff wouldn't go off! (it was around the hot part of last summer).

Still Brian and the guys never gave up and now the job is superb - just glad I didn't have to foot the bill

haven't had a milky screen, but i have had one replaced last month. autoglass in stoke on trent did it (£50 insurance excess) - good job too - and it took about a day. apparently they have to have a number of fitters to do the job including some 'experienced people'. consequently you may find more of a problem getting the car booked in (ie. they probably won't be able to do it at the weekend) than getting hold of a screen! lucky me - i have to get the screen replaced again next week after some c*nt kicked my mirror off and cracked the screen in the process...
