For some reason my boot won't shut propoerly now and there was some water in it the other week after the heavy rain. It used to catch the latch very easily, but now you have to shut it as usual and then push down very firmly after that to engage the latch.
Any suggestions. Is it something out of alignment and if so what?

The boot latch, the bit on the boot-lid, is secured (on mine) by 3-bolts. If they, are not/were not, fully tightened, then the adjustment will change !! It does not take much to alter. Also check hinges are not getting "loose". They may need looking at.
Depends on your "level-of-skill" as to whether you can wield a spanner and hence sort-it yourself! Failing that, drive to a Dealer !!

Had a similar problem with mine, and the problem was not the bit attached to the boot lid, but the bit attached to the car. The actual latch, it was not catching and gave the problems you mentioned. To fix it I got the trusted WD 40, and, behind the latch inside the boot there is a liitle "flap" if you pull this you reveal the mechanism and wires that open the boot. Quick spray and all was sorted

Could well be this as the little flap which covers the mechanism has coem loose, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if some dust was getting into it. Will have a look next time I'm back home.
