Chimaera leaks...

Hi all,I have a L reg chimaera-not garaged. Even with the cover when not been used. When it rains the drivers side always gets a soaking {under the pedals}Leaving a pool of water.
Is there anyway i can prevent this, surely not all chim like this or is it just the older ones,
any advise appreciated.

Do a search, leaks or water ingression will help.
I think there is even a few in the FAQ section.

You don't say if it's a full cover or just a hood cover - although I guess it's just the hood.
You will probably need to re-seal both the Brake and Clutch master cylinders, the hoses that go into the top of the inner wing too also someone said where the heat shielding is riveted on can cause problems too (one of my next jobs).

many thks for that i will get that done, i just did not know where to start.

Its a full cover, if the cover isnt on and theres a heavy down fall i could keep fish in there!!

If it's a full cover and it still leaks, perhaps it's time you got a new cover?

I have a 94 Chim 4.3 and have left it out without the cover a few times as I don't like putting the cover on when the car is really wet. I have to say, I have had no leaks at all!

Even after several torrential downpours, I have been really suprised to find everything thoroughly dry inside.

Check those door and glass seals. It can trickle down from anywhere and of course you find it at the bottom, in the footwell.

Paul, have you checked the brake fluid reservoir seal. This is supposed to be the main culprit (Bible Ch 15, page 362 2nd Edition !)

Another possibility is where the windscreen wiper spigot goes through - some silicone here might help.

It is possible to get this sorted so don't lose heart. Just be methodical and if all else fails plant yourself upside down with a torch, a mobile phone and a box of tissues in the driver's foot well. Shut the door and have a mate flood the outside with a hose and look for drips.

Ensure the mate doesn't leave before he helps you out of your upside-down predicament or you might need the mobile phone to call in heavy lifting gear to get you out again.

had my old chim 'up to the pedals' after an overnight downpour.found the source quickly in the same way hut 49 suggests.peeled back the carpets from behind the pedals in the footwell and got mrs mongoose to pour a kettle of water over the drivers side of the windscreen.result was bad w/screen seal,replaced with new screen(use genuine tvr only) for £50 on insurance excess,and fitting was gauranteed against leaks/faulty fitting for life!!
