Austec Exhaust upgrade
Discussion
Got this done a while ago but only just uploaded the video I took of it. It's 6.7 megs, so bear that in mind before downloading it. And make sure you turn up the volume...

Oh you sod. I need that. How much and what did they exactly do? Silencer mods or is it some kind of cat removal/replacement (i.e. expensive).
T/.
It was £120 (plus VAT) from Austec Racing, near Gatwick. www.austec.co.uk/ Loads of places do the same thing. Essentially it comprises of opening up the back box, remove the fibre glass wadding and the perforated pipes, put in solid pipes and weld the box back up. Nothing too difficult or taxing. Comes out at around 105-107 dB. The only problem is around 2k rpm it's a little boomy. Translates to about 60mph in top. It quietens back down by 70.
I ended up buying some silencers to slip over the end so that I can still do track days. They were $45 plus VAT.
You know you want it

Thanks. So are the silencers supposed to get things back down to normal 98db ish levels or just 102 (or whatever is borderline at many tracks).
I'm going to pop down to a track at some point and get them measured properly. The silencers are supposed to knock of about 10 dB. Austec reckoned I'd be at about 108, so the silencers would take me back to around 98. If it's more than 108 I'll be having words with Austec as I want to be able to get down to track day levels, i.e. sub 100 dB.
However, it is a fantastic addition to the car and I'd definitely recommend it. Especially when you change down a gear and get the pops and bangs on the over-run...

Cool. Let me know how you get on. If my car has cause to go into Austec in the near future it may well get done anyway ... :sorry occifer:
nice going Rob! was meaning to ask you how the mod went! take it you are happy!
Still very pleased with the noise my chim makes, post Austec, going by the vid it sounds slightly different from mine - hope we can get to compare notes soon!
Never managed to get the db reading after fully sleeving but certainly aroun 4000 rpm the noise is very indecent, probably illegal too!

I had a PM from Martin Denley.
artin, unfortunately your email system won't let me reply to you! All of the details of what I've had done are on this thread, there's nothing more to it. It's not a new exhaust system, just modifying the current one to remove all silencing. Well, most of it. The cats and pre-cats are still in.

I think it might be time to pay Paul/Mike a visit at Austec...
