Door lock fault

I have a 94 Chimaera with the 'traditional' key and lock entry system (ie not the blipper!). I cant lock the car from the driver side. Haven't been able to since purchasing the car 2 months ago and have been too busy driving it to worry about getting it fixed.
The passenger side works fine.
The key goes in the driver-side lock ok, but it's not possible to turn the key - something has obviously jammed the lock.
Is the lock easy to remove and service, or should i just get a Dealer to look at/replace the locks?

Why did the early Chimaeras have a key and lock system instead of remote blipper? The earliest Griffiths hadn't key and lock - was it just a cost saving exercise?
Not sure you are correct re-blipper? I've a very early '93 which other than a replaced alarm (hence no blipper) it has all the capability of using blippers - i.e. Solenoids on both doors which could be triggered by a blipper (via the alarm).
I guess manual door locks were there 'cause flat batteries/electrical failures and alarm drainage and lack of alternative entry was not acceptable or achieving a reasonable Mean Time To Failure (MTTF).
Later technology, especially with alarms/triggering solenoids and electronics which do not drain a battery flat within weeks of non-usage, had higher MTTFs and hence time to remove locks and reduce cost!!

I had a similar problem just before Christmas while I was babysitting my friends Chimaera. I used a vast amount of WD40 to no avail, spent many hours fiddling with at got really really angry cos I wanted to drive it. I was considering sticking a screwdriver in the lock when I had an idea.
The lock was stuck in the horizontal position (cos the key had been taken out halfway through the locking procedure) and it wouldn't turn fully the way the manual said it should. So... I put the key in and twisted (anti-clockwise to get it back in position) VERY VERY hard and finally the mechanism went round. For a moment I thought I'd

Problem Solved. Did the same with the passenger door. Not a problem since.

Of course, it could be that the lock has been replaced at some point and you haven't been supplied they key for that lock!

If you fancy a remote blipper for a much less than £180, I can give you some plans for a system I built with parts from Maplin Electronics. Whole thing cost me about £40 to build and works with the doors and the boot.
Also uses the latest Keeloq protocol for better security.
