Clutch Master cylinder

Clutch pedal on the Chimaera has got softer and softer for the last 2 days to the point today the clutch doesn't dis-engage.

Does this sound like the master cylinder?

I'm going to fix it myself. Is it going to be as hard as I'm fearing, working through a 6" diameter portal?

could be the master or the slave cyl.could even be a leak has developed on one of the joints(i had this but it was self inflicted).ive not done the master cyl before on this car,but most think its a pain,and if your only replacing the seals then do it in situ.

If the master cylinder is leaking you might notice a greasy smear of fluid on the carpet beneath the pedal. Otherwise reach up in the footwell and check around the cylinder for signs of fluid.

If the leak is minor you can get a few days life (to drive out to pick up a spare) by topping up the fluid and pumping the pedal for a while.

Dont know if this will help diagnosis but...
When my master cylinder went the clutch pedal became harder and harder to depress. Oh and several left shoes were ruined with clutch fluid.

Had this happens to me just before Christmas.... on a roundabout before the M25. One minute it was fine next couldn't get a gear. Had to limp home (25miles) with no clutch (good old rev matching) 1st was slightly more difficult!!!
Opened up the clutch reservoir to find it completely dry... topped it up and bled it. Was fine for about 20miles then same problem. When a seal goes it really does go. Managed to limp to Gatwick TVR 1300 the day before Xmas. They managed to fit me in which was much appreciated, but it did come to £281 inc vat for Master/Slave replacement.

What’s more had only bought the car 4days before and so hadn't transferred the WHA policy to my name... and because I didn't know about the garage having to phone them for permission to do the work they've refused to pay up!!!! even wrote a nice letter, but just got a blunt almost rude reply back basically saying 'tough, follow the procedure next time' Shame WHA don't seem to follow the same customer care procedure as TVR dealers. (especially Gatwick TVR who were exceptional)

sounds much the same as when the slave cylinder went on the S... its most unlikely to be both at once.

Clutch master cylinder is TR6.

Re-rubbered mine last year on my S2 and a friends Griff.

Rubber kits are available from Moss Europe for approx 7 pound.

I can supply the numbers if you want.

Overhauled my clutch master cylinder last weekend.

Part number is SP2102 and is a Lucas/Girling repair kit.

Access is via the little hatch next to the brake reservoir and upside down in the footwell . Once off the kit should have instructions as to how to replace the two seals and the little steel spring washer. Then its just a case of putting it all back together and bleeding it easier said than done but can be completed with one hand in the footwell and one hand underneath to do up the bleed nipple.
