A bit Technical
Discussion
Right, I'm curious to know 'technically' whats happening with the car
Basically when the cars nice and warm, if you accelerate in any gear, but 1 and 2 are the easiest to do it in, upto about 4-4.5k rpm then dip the clutch, but do the gear change quite slowly so the revs have dropped about 500-750 rpm by the time you slot the next gear the car gives off 2 massive gun shots and I'm told the one time I did it with racegirl behind me, 2 flames popped out the exhaust pipes
Now I've not really got a problem with this, it can be quite good for dealing with tailgaters, and I've not noticed any downsides yet but I'm just curious as to 'technically' whats happening, I'm sure it's not 'normal' as it never used to do this and I've not seen it from many other Chimaera's

It's not that technical.......you have produced a surplus of "fuel/air in a ratio close to detonation" into the exhaust when accelerating up to 4000 rpm , or so. It has then been allowed to come into contact with a very hot exhaust source and/or be ignited by opening the throttle again and there's you flames of unburt fuel/air!!
The technical bit will arise when you ask "why".....??
I'll leave that to others, but the answer must be 42.

Recently had the 'Austec Exhaust Upgrade' and when ever I rev quite highly >4000 then come almost off the throttle suddenly I get the most awesome pops and bangs on the overrun. Certainly takes the 'kevs' in their Nova's by surprise
apparently some good flashes as well.
I guess by just leaving a tiny bit of throttle on I'm just increasing the amount of waste fuel being dumped into the exhaust.
Certainly a most welcome addition to the car... sound fantastic

If close the throttle suddenly at high revs I guess you could rapidly increase the vacuum in the inlet mainfold. This could suck in more fuel from the injectors resulting in incomplete combustion and unburnt fuel going into the exhaust mixing with any air in the exhaust or at the other end of the pipe.
