Adjusting wing mirror glass

Hi guys,
Is it possible to adjust the position of the glass inside the mirror casing?
The casing itself is in the correct position, but even with the mirror adjusted fully outwards all I can see is the side of my head (not a bad thing in itself
) and most of the rear quarter of the car (a better thing) but not much else, I generally have to lean forward a little to get a decent view.
I know it's dull looking where you have been but it is useful to see if anything is there when doing the BMW/Merc slip road to outside lane move.

someone else asked this on either the griff or chimp forum recently.have you got the actual mirror body itself in the right position?what i mean by this is that the body itself 'folds' in and outwards.without it far enough out,youll never be able to compensate enough with the glass adjustment.

I would, most sincerely, doubt the casing is in the correct position. You can move it to have the adjustment at the "other-end" and hence move the glass to see your "rear". I have found that the passengers mirror can be in either "position", that is at one end of the adjustment and still "see" most of the rear wing, or move the casing and "miss the rear wing, but see the pavement...?".
Somewhere in between the casing movement will allow you a view of the offending Merc/BMW.
P.S. Other posting about mirrors have identified the frailty of the mirror mounting - I swing mine back and forth and have had no problems !!

Were talking external mirrors right?
If so then I have actually re-seated both of mine relatively recently. They are only stuck on with double sided sticky pads (most mirrors are) and are fairly easy to remove - just be careful.
You can then remove the backing holder for the mirror and re-position this how you like (this holds it flat against the mechanism that moves, which is inside the mirror holder itself. You can also adjust the mirror holder in the frame itself if you want - its a case of poking and pushing the motors and cogs. Be careful that you dont damage anything, but in general nothing to fear and perfectly fine....
Like I said, most mirrors are held on with the same stuff and you can simply replace the sticky pads and stick the mirrors back on.

OK, but the stickers are there to because people don't use the catches.

Just poking about the cogs etc? That simple? May have to give that a go, I was expecting to have to take the inside of the door apart.
