Electrical issues!!
Discussion
Morning all,
Yesterday i went to put the car back in the garage in the dark, put the lights on and the windscreen wipers came on, so did the hazards!!!
When the side lights were on all was OK, it was just when i put the main beam on that it all went pear shaped.
I can only think that it is a dodgy earth somewhere.....
I know it will probably be like trying to find a needle in a haystack
Any ideas?
Cheers

More likely dash/fusebox area OTOMH? Can't see how the front earths would affect hazards or wipers.
I think this may be more aling the right lines, I am thinking that I installed a new head unit which could well have caused issues.I had some work done on the stereo a while ago and the guy said there was a dodgy earth then. I'm now wondering if by putting the new head unit in has caused issues.
I know the battery terminal is OK I did that a while ago.
Do you know where there are any earth points around the tunnel?
Cheers

Coming back from NEC 4-5 weeks ago in my mates Chim it was exactly as described!Go over a bump and all indicator tell-tales on dash would glow dimly, pushed switch for main beam and wipers would come on!!.
Fiddling with bunched wires just behind grill/front of radiator cured (short term) the odd problems!!. Steve checked the 17 mm earth bolt and found 3 turns loose! This after body repair by well known dealer in the N Hants area!

Hazards are not the same as indicators.
The relays flashing the indicators is VERY different from a bad earth allowing feedback to make bulbs glow?
The hazards did not actually flash, the bulbs on the dash and the light ring around the switch glowed, but they did not flash.
With regard to the earth bolt by the radiator, can someone tell me where exactly?
Lastly, the bolt that holds the AFM on doesn't have any earthing properties does it? I took that one out on Sunday to get the new silicone inlet hose on, then bolted it back together, but i didn't know if there was anything attached under the tread which would cause any other issues?
Cheers
The earth is just under the rad looking through the grille, normally offside.
Well worth cleaning them all up as a preventative measure anyway, something I would add to maybe 12k on the service schedule TBH.
The AFM isn't bolted to the car, the AFM-Induction pipe adapter is fixed. Both the bolts are just into captive nuts in the fibreglass, so no electrical property whatsoever.

Hi there in the pic the 2 no red arrows show where the front of the chassis is bolted onto the body. In most cases the one on the drivers side has some earth connections to it [but remember this is a T.V.R we are dealing with, so check both points] The 2 no blue arrows show the 2 body fastening points on the transmission tunnel. They are hard to find as they are buried underneath the carpet on top of the tunnel approx 2 inch in from the front of the dash.

Tom,
Looking at the pic, can you tell me if the body fixing goes vertically - or does it go horizontally?
Looking under the bonnet tonight, there is a hole on near side where it looks as if there should be a bolt?? or is it a drain hole?

I've narrowed it down to the ribbon cables that come from the back of the switches, namely the ones on the radio panel (hazards, rear fog and headlights)
Where do the cables go from the switches?
Do they go to some kind of control box , if so where is it? and how do you get to it!
Cheers
