dodgy lights

Hi all

I've recently realised that my fog light goes off when i flick from dip beam to main beam. Is this a safety thing to keep you on dip in fog, if not has this happened to anyone else

Normal. Common behaviour on most cars.

I posted a similar question the last time we had bad fog around here. Seems that most Chimaeras do that, but no other (mass-produced) car that I've driven. <shrug>

I believe that regulations (EU?) require that lights be connected in this way if they are driving lights not fog lights.

if it is foggy enough to need rear fog lights, it is certainly too foggy for main beam to be of any use. the light will just bounce back off the fog and blind you.

Neither of the 2 I've owned have ever done this. It's a twist switch on the stalk that turns on front then front and rears. Both mine were/are the facelift version so they might be different.
