My off side door lock has broken, ie cannot turn the key at all. I have removed the lock which is a modified GM part. It does not appear to be able to take apart to repair it. I am thinking of fitting a new alarm with a blipper to open the central locking. Does any one know if I could leave the door lock off and fit the later push button in its place, or is the internel mechanosm different?
The car is a 1994, 4 litre with the original keyed door locks.

Hi,

Could you post any details you find as i'm looking at having this done also.

Any idea of costs to do both door locks to pushbuttons mounted in the original holes (as the 95-late96) and the cost of central locking interface

Cheers

Lee

.Mark is quite correct - although cant quite work out if you are planning on changing the actual location of the button from behind the door to under the wing mirror.

I had central locking activated from the key hole and it was a pain in the a*se so when I had a new alarm and immobiliser system fitted I also got them to wire in a new push button central locking from the key fob. So the locking works from the button but to open the door its still a mechanical push on the button rather than the electrical button under the wingmirror.

The cost of just changing the locking to key fob button is about £100 - £150.

Yes, If I am reading you right you replaced the key locks in the wings with the later push buttons. So there was no problem with the internal mechanism? Does that stay the same with a rod attached to the button to open the door instead of the key?
I wasn't thinking of the wing mirror jobby.

sorry mate - not quite sure we are singing from the same hymn sheet.

Basically the only difference on mine now is to unlock the car, which is done on a remote rather than with the key. To get in I still push down on the trusty button with the rod mechanism on the underside. That remained the same. The central locking has just been adapted to work on the blipper rather than the key....

if that makes sense....

all the working of the actual push down getting in part remained the same AFAIK

Not sure about this is the same thing but, my Griff had the "push down with great force" door opening. I modified it so its a 2mm press and the doors open. It also means i can pop the doors open from the number plate when passing the key fob over the sensor, maybe a bit OTFT. I can even pop just he passengers door open to save grandmama from breaking a nail.

Thanks Shnozz, thats exactely what I am thinking of. Although cost of alarm plus push buttons will be far greater than a new lock kit. Still awaiting cost of new locks from TVR on Monday, can't find any second hand.
