Full or Interim Service?

By the time my annual service is due I will have only covered about 3000 miles since the last service. Yes I know I really should get out more! My question is do I really need to fork out about £200 more for the 12000 mile dealer service or will a cheaper 6000 mile service suffice. The only real difference in the service schedules appears to be a change of plugs and coolantwhich I could do myself much cheaper.
The car is a 98 Chmaera and will have 32000 miles on at service time.

I'd personally go for whichever is 'due', even if i hadn't covered the required mileage.

ill second that.dont forget g/box oil and diff oil(oil breaks down with age once used,irrispective of miles),brake fluid(hygroscopic,irrispective of miles),coolant change every 2 years for corrosion protection,mileage irrelivant.there are a lot of things on the main service schedule which arent on the minor one,see henlys website for a full list.i think the main service is much better value comparatively,and well worth having whatever mileage youve done.incidently,the spark plugs are just about the one thing you could get away without changing with your mileage imo,but only if you know your not going to exceed 6000 miles on them before the next service!

Thanks for pointing me to Heleys website.However, there are some variations between their service schedule and that published in the 2nd edition bible which was my source. Henleys advocate brake fuid change every 12000 miles or 2 years, in the bible its every 24000 miles or 4years. Henleys advocate plug change every 6000miles or 12months - the bible every 12000miles or 2 years. Henleys advocate changing diff and gearbox oil every 12000 miles the bible only mentions checking levels and topping up.

brake fluid 4 years,go by henlys,never heard of a 4 year recommendation before.as for the others,henlys is the proper tvr service schedule,so its up to you to decide your idea of whats sensible.ill repeat,only the plug change is worth questioning imho.

The 4 year 48000 mile change is what the official TVR service recommendations are. Nothing wrong with changing earlier. The bible recommendations are from the official service sheets.

dont take this the wrong way steve,but henlys say it the official tvr service schedule.has it changed?

I haven't.... Anything to do with TVRs is subject to change.

Interestingly enough.... The Cerbera schedules say every 24 months but the Wedge ones is every 3 years.

Looks like a change or an oversight to be honest. As I said no problem with changing the brake fluid very frequently.

Something for the third edition.
