Size Matters

Anyone know if this is the tyre size for the backs on a standard Chim. 245/45/16.

225 50 16

I have seen all of these used. Option 1 or option 3 seem to be the norm though.

Whats the difference for the first number. Do they all fit on the same rim... I don't get it..

IIRC 245/45/16 was (for the main part) standard on the 500.
400 (for the main part) had 225/50/16 on the back, although some earlier ones had 225/55/16!
I don't have my bible to hand as I'm at work, but I'm sure someone has one handy and could quote from the relevant page.....

These two web sites show the difference it will make to the overall size of the wheel when changing the tyre.. The first also shows the difference it will make to your speedo

I might be making a bit of an assumption here, but how are you going to fit Cerb wheels to a Chimaera? I assume that's what you're planning since we're in the Chimaera forum. Have you got the conversion kit?

Apart from RudeGirl's question, which seems reasonable don't forget that the 16" Chimaera rear wheels are 7.5" wide and I think the 16" Cerbera wheels are probabaly 8" wide. Rich...

Which bit of it don't you get? The first number is the tread width in mm. The second the sidewall depth represented as a %age of the width and the third figure is the rim diameter in inches

Not being funny TomBob, but are you not from these parts? Most car enthusiasts would know this stuff from the age of about 6 Rich...

I am from these parts... but my interest in tyres has always been...are they legal..are they on the car...as far as their size I normally leave that to the pros..
Now the simple question is will the chim tyres I have fit on the Cerb wheels I'm getting..From the responses no one seems to know... if they are wider then I presume thats a no... so a new set of tyres is required as well.

Ask the peeps on the Cerb Forum what size tyres they fit on their 16 inch (4.2/speed 6 style) wheels. The range I listed probably isn't far off though. I suspect the Cerbera rims might be a different width meaning the tyres would 'sit' differently though.

The question still stands about how you're going to fit Cerbera wheels on a Chimaera. There are 4 studs on the Chimaera and 5 studs on the Cerbera hubs you see ...

OK done some checking for you Tom. The Cerbera 4.2 and Speed 6 were supplied with 16" x 7.5" six spoke alloy rims. (not 8" as I previously thought). These were fitted with 225/45 16 front and 245/45 16 rears on the 4.2 V8 and 225/45 16 all round on the Speed 6. Rich...

Rears will fit. Fronts won't as they are 15 inch. I thought that Leven had not gone ahead with the conversion kit.

The factory one comes with Tuscan Spyder wheels which I believe have a different offset to those off a Cerbera. Could be wrong though. The Cerbera wheel studs are also imperial not Metric as fitted on the other cars so that might cause a problem.

But the Spider 16 kit from the factory seems a good idea.. Anyone on hear got a picture of what they look like.
