My 4.0 Chim just failed it first MOT on two accounts:

Failed the CAT test - the reading was varying wildly from .2/.3 at high revs to over 2 at med revs. Would this be engine management issue or a faulty cat?

Offside near tyre worn badly on the inside, but loads of tread on the outside. Just tracking or something more serious?

Thanks in advance.

The cat test could be a faulty lambda sensor, which appears to be quite common - about £100 to fix. The tracking is also a common problem I think. I had it done several times on my chim - its always worth checking the front tires every month or so to see if its ok.

mine failed on lamba 2 years ago... it was a simple leak on one of the pipe joints needed tightening. get the car up on some ramps and have a look for carbon on the joints, then loosen them stick in some gunge and tighten them up... cost me 3 quid at the local tyre place.

alternativley since then i've ditched the cats and found a friendly garage
