Chassis Outriggers
Discussion
holed or just corroded?
if not holed just clean and paint and waxoyl .. say 100 quid all in?
you can replace the outriggers without taking the body off, reckon on about 400 pounds per side .. just done the front sections on an S .. cost about 600 pounds for both sides - the owner had been quoted 1000 pounds per side!! ouch!!

If its just surface rust then join the club of most aged TVR chassis... a long weekend of wire brushing, paint sraping, and hammeriting awaits you..
As joolz says though, if you've got actual structural corrosion, then its a cut'n'sleeve job on the chassis to replace them which is a real PITA.
Cheers
Matt.

yup. that's what i do .. sleeve the pipes and weld up the top sections from inside the tube (cut a little access slot) then slide the new section in and weld the rest from under neath
result
you say that you do this job without taking the body off by cutting out the rusty bit and then making a tube that fits about 3/4 of the way around and then welding from the inside and then make a filler plate for the bottom slot , is that right and how do you keep the heat from the bodywork, do you use a fire blanket or what , as i have found a holed bit on the outrigger under the passenger seat area in front of the rear wheel, thats the tube that runs from front to back , the rusty bit is about six inches long.
