Yup. Land Rover V8 gaskets - The rubber ones. Can't remember the part number, but there's a right hand one hanging up in my garage in it's wrapper.

Urm, their not actually.

Early engines (pre-serp) require the cork gaskets.These cant use the silicone gaskets unless fitted by an experienced bodger.

The newer serpentine rocker covers have a machined base and these use the newer silicone gaskets.

Basically their the same except for the above differences in gasket fitment.

Sorry to sound....green but how do I tell if I have a serp or not? mine is a 1999 - 400

You have a Serpentine engine - they came in during mid-late '95.

a serpentine engine is so knicknamed because of the belt run resembling a serpent.this belt is a modern type wide belt with 7 or so grooves running along its continual length.the earlier engines were pre-serp and had a traditional thin type fan belt running over the alternator,crank pulley etc in the now old fashioned way,i think,without a tensioner.

Thanks for all this advice, sounds like mine is a serpantine!
The rocker covers can be revamped though, I know you can also get exchange ones which is really what my question was for. Thanks for mentioning ones on ebay.

Whatever you do don't get them fitted by a main agent, that'll be the best part of £300 and 3 hours labour.

Had mine done after they diagnosed my oil leak was from the covers.

Still leaked oil from somewhere, so took it back.
They tightened up the sump plug which was leaking (from their service) and tightened up the sump bolts.

Guess what, it is leaking from god knows where.

O....Austec told me mine was leaking...just told them to replace them..thought it would only be a short job..... havn't asked the price...£300 is going to hurt if thats right.

what £300 just to fit a pair of rocker covers , or is that supply and fit
