Old style central locking module

Anybody know where I can get one for a 1993 model? It's the large box that goes under the top half of the dash. It has fuses and relays in it and controls the central locking.

Or which manufacturer made it?

Been there done that - unless you can find one at a breakers, no-one, even TVR do not have replacement modules (or the wiring diagrams !!). Spoke to Pennisula (nr Exeter - bit far from Yorkshire!!), but they reckon they can replace it "modern" small black box which will interface with Alarm and Central locking.

Good luck, but I think you have to go the "up-grade" route & dunno when TVR changes what you & I have to the later small box!!

Possibly best to pop the dash top off and go into a 'good' local alarm fitters. They should be able to retro fit a different module that will work - if yours is an early 93-94 model as the module only picks up off the micro switch in the door locks.

On the other hand you might be better off having a complete new alarm + central locking fitted. Some good offers on Clifford systems at the moment.

Sixteen pin input plug - interfaces with Central locking, alarm input/output, indicators/lights and ignition supply. Out-dated heavy relay switching for what comes in a 6/8 pin solid state box on '95-ish & later Chims/Griffs.

There are quite few different "universal" central locking interfaces available but you need to know how it works in the first place. If it connected to the indicators as well then it is more than just a central locking control unit.

Had a problem with a relay in my central locking unit (93 Chim) removed it, pulled it apart and cleaned up the contacts and no more problems. I think the unit only works the central locking and flashes the indicators when locking and unlocking, it was one of the indicator relays that had stuck on mine.

Not just Central locking and indicators, but also the fuel pump supply goes through central Door locking Control Unit. Wiring colours appear to be Green/Black. They didn't use 16 cables in/out just for central locking!!

Glad yours worked after cleaning up......mine has been modded with Darlington Pair which I believe have gone to their Silicon/Germanium after-life, plus someone replaced original alarm unit which impacts the central locking CU, so I'm left with an un-holy mess.

Sorry Ribol (and others) wish it was just a case of replacing a "simple" central locking unit.....!!!

You may be missing something here, you could leave this unit in place doing what it does and by pass the central locking side of things. It's all a question of how far your electrics go.

A company called microscan make aftermarket c/locking kits. one of their universal interface kits my do the trick. Try Maplins or demon tweeks.

Mine is completely missing, so how is the fuel pump still working?

Obviously by-passed !! When I unplug mine (as I did some months ago to discover other related problems), the fuel guage goes to zero and the fuel pump won't pump - ergo, two of the three "alarm system pass-through" the Control Unit. Don't ask about wiring plans, I have "generic" colour code at home if you need it. Sounds like someone has removed the Control Unit and "killed" your central locking (like mine), but provided continuity for Alarm, fuel and other items.

Does sound like if all else works, Alarm ? Then you could get a central locking interface as suggested by other from Maplins etc?? Your "Alarm" could/can power the central locking when alarming/unalarming with the correct "box" ???

Mmmm, there's nothing, no alarm or locking module. I have a Clifford Avant Guard G4 going in soon.

I have one of the newer 6 pinned relays, will this work with the current locking mechanisms/servos on doors(or behind the doors)? Or just get the whole lot replaced? <famous last words>Doesn't look too expensive!</famous last words>

I don't know if the early locking system differs to later ones as far as the locking/unlocking side of things go, but if it uses two door motors to dead lock the car then any modern alarm will be able to work them without any relays. The alarm can be wired direct to the loom of what you call the central locking unit. The popping open of the door is a separate issue and should not be affected.
