Hi, I am new here although I have been looking on the forums and classifieds for some time. I currently own a BMW323 coupe and want to change this for a Chimaera. What I want to know is what sort of costs are involved in running the car (ie. Servicing and petrol)as it will be my everyday transport although I do get a train to work so the car will be driven mostly at weekends.
How long is a piece of string ??
I've got a 99 450 and use it almost daily doing around 6000 a year. I get my services at a local indipendent specialist at a fixed price (£300&vat for a 6000 and £400&vat for a 12000). Petrol is between 15 and 20 to the gallon and optimax only.........apart from that, the only other expense is tyres 10-12k mls, insurance £700 and muscle cream for the grin lines round the mouth

I do quite a lot of miles in my Chim (say 20K+ this year). Expenditure has been roughly:
fuel: shed loads. just ignore it now.
insurance: 1100ish quid
servicing: 5-700 at TVR main dealer
other bits: 9 quid for new HT lead, 1000quid for some suspension work (new wishbones, springs, bushes and bits and bobs (nothing dodgy just wear and tear)+ expensive labour). maybe 400 on tyres.
All in all, it sounds a lot but less than i anticipated for a year of great fun. tyre expenditure has taught me i'm not nearly doing nearly enough back end sliding about. suspension + servicing expenditure has taught me to be less lazy and use an independent rather than local TVR shop.
Best bet is to get one and if it's too much, cut your losses and sell it.
The fun factor makes it all worth it (i'd much rather spend a grand on bits for my Chim than several hundred on bits for something mundane!)

I do about 6000 miles a year and am hoping to keep the maintanence/service costs to about £1000 a year (well thats what I told the wife) so far this year service £323, new clutch to be fitted approx £450, diff bearings are whining a bit but should last until next year.
Insurance £480 including breakdown and european cover. Petrol last tank 14.3 but average 17.7 over 2000 miles. (5.0 chimaera)
