Can someone enlighten me as to the different between a a 205/50/15 tyre and a 225/50/15 tyre?

Other than the price, that is?

Er, one is 205mm wide and one is 225mm wide. Same aspect ratio (50%) and diameter. One will have a slightly different rolling radius (see Toyo's website for rolling radius data).

205s normally fitted to non PAS cars
225s normally fitted to PAS cars

Many say 205s give better steering feel without trading much if any grip.

I'm too crap a driver to tell and have 225/50 and they're great.

Er, why are the 225's fitted to PAS cars?

Is it because Bridgestone think we've got more money?

I'm thinking that the cheaper option is perferable then, if there isn't much handling difference?

Much as I love my local tyre dealer, anyone got an online source for Bridgestone S03's?

Never thought about it. I had assumed 205s were fitted to non-PAS to make the steering lighter.

The handling with 225s is fine - nice touch of understeer before the oversteer kicks in.

My local tyre dealer explained that the retailers are all associated with one or more manufacturers which is why some can offer such good deals on specific brands. If you have a Bathwick Tyres near you try them as they are v. competitive for Bridgstones.

erm..... the tyres as fitted to mine are 205/55ZR15 on the front of mine.... and it has PAS.

I think, rather than thinking people who have PAS have more money, the intention was that people without PAS should have/would like less rubber to fight when parking etc.

If you're down south then good places to get Bridgestones (and pretty much any other tyre) are:

Bracknell Tyre and Battery (in Bracknell)
Micheldever Tyres (near Winchester)

I've been buying tyres from these two for aaaages. Always the best prices, always do a good job.

I second the recommendation for Bracknell Tyre & Battery - great bunch and great prices.

Bound to be a bit busy if you go at the weekend though ...
