Hi
I've searched the archives and read the relevent posts, so I know that I need to have a look to check the speed sensor by the diff (have T5 box).

Problem is that I'm not sure what to look for when I get there...

Have intermittant speedo/odo failure.

Can anyone help with a piccy or a description of the sensor? I'm doing a 1/8 mile sprint on Sun and really want to know my final speed.

Apart from checking for rogue connections is there anything else I can do to diagnose the fault?

Many thanks in advance

Richard

Ok, mines a 96 so stand to be corrected by anyone with a later car.

The speed sensor is on the very back of the propshaft(just in front of the diff) and sits above it, there is then a notched plastic wheel attached to the prop shaft that produces the pulses as the prop shaft spins.

To get to it remove the rear wheels and you should be able to see it, you realy need a ramp. There will be two wires coming out of it these go back up the tunnel towards the speedo and the ECU (the wires will be twisted because of the way it screws into position). The sensor its self could probably do with a clean and just check its position relative to the notched wheel (very close but not touching!). Appart from this the only other thing you can do is replace it.

The other thing to check is the conection at the back of the speedo, remove the dash top and check its pushed on firmly.

The intermittent nature of the problem suggests its a connecton problem rather than a failure of any single component.
