I've just bought a Chimaera that's been stood for a while and needs an MoT, everything seems fine apart from the wipers. I've seen a lot of threads talking about park switches, motor not working at all (or just one speed),gears bust etc but mine are just generally slow. They work fine (intermittent, 2 speeds, park) with the wipers away from the screen but as soon as there is any kind of load on them (when they are in contact with the screen!) they just stick mid sweep.
My thoughts are it's either the motor (and yes it's that expensive one!)or cleaning the drive cable but I can't really seem to get to into it to lube with copper grease. The motor strains and twists in the bracket but I guess this is fairly normal.
The history that came with the car said the two wiper gearboxes were replaced just a few thousand miles ago (but not the motor)
I'm sure someone has seen or personally experienced this, any ideas?

When you turned on the wipers was the screen dry because most TVR wipers are very slow if there is no windscreen wash or water on the screen.

It was dry and did speed up (a bit) when wet. My concern is it won't pass the MoT as it is, I was just going to take it to the garage I use for my main car and they may not appreciate the 'features' of TVR wipers

I know what you mean, I took my first TVR Chimaera to a normal garage for MOT and they wanted to fail it for having no door handles (the tester got stuck in the car because he didn't know how to get out) and for not having any illumination on the number plate (it was rear lit but he didn't know) but I would say that because your washers work and the wipers do clear the screen then I would think it would pass, there is no set speed for it to clear the screen as far as I know of.

Main concern is that when I say slow it actually stops mid screen more often than not so it could be classed as not clearing the screen

Hello all.
When I bought my Chimaera last year the wipers were doing exactly what you describe.
On taking the motor apart the brush plate was in a very sorry state and the brushes almost non existent.
You may well get away with a new plate for about £20, but in my case the armature was burnt and a reconditioned motor was needed at £250!
The wipers do work now but will never be on a par with a "new" car.
All part of the fun! Good luck, Chris.

Run some heavier leads from the battery to the wiper motor to see if this could be down to poor wiring/bad earth. I fitted a relay mod to a friends Chimaera to address slow lifting windows. I was shocked at the thin guage of the wires TVR had used. They may have just been OK when everything was brand new, but were so thin that the slightest tightening of the mechanism or friction from the runners and they would not allow current to flow at the rate required. (He had replaced the runners with some that had felt in them (the old ones were just rubber) and with heavier wires and relays the windows lifted like a new car.)

I would connect the correct wire to a battery live first ,you may be wasting your money .. £170 is ridiculous !

usual practice is to take the live feed from the motor to energise the relay and then from the relay to motor with the larger sized cables. The wiper system would probably need multiple relays.
