Has anyone found any cheap speakers to put in the door ? I have these old Infinity Kappa 60cs in there at the min. They are the woofer part of a component setup, but without the tweeters, so sound pretty terrible.

I really dont care about the sound however, i just want some new grills - as the Infinity ones look sheoite.

Therefore i want some really cheap ( like £30-40 ) speakers which fit. Any ideas ?

There was some on Ebay not long ago, probably your best bet as you need 16cm ones to fit properly. 99% of car speaker grills are now too big.

These should fit:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pioneer-Speakers-/2304881011...

These are what I have in mine, sound fairly good too. (I have them on for the missus smile)

Just put an alpine iPod compatible head unit and 2 pairs of infinity speakers in mine and sound is 100 times better than it was. Links below:

Cheers Ads. So how do you know the grill diameter of the speakers you linked to ? It seems like a very useful bit of info, which is rarely given in the specs....

Only by searching the spec of the speaker on the manufactures website. Thats the best way really. or by emailing the manufacture's support team. Put it this way, I have spoken to most of the major manufactures and the ones I have found that will fit are JL audio that are still made new, all the others the grill come up too big in my experience.

I know that any Pioneer speakers where the model code begins with 16 are 16cm ones, the originals are something like 1620 i think.

So I am 99% sure any pioneers with 16 in the model number will fit. (all new pioneers start 17 - 17cm)

I do actually have a pair of these http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/thx652-sp... i'd be willing to sell if your interested? Brand new in box, I bought them for mine, but decided I wanted to try and keep original and managed to find some on Ebay. PM me if your interested.

Salmon, do the grills fit on those speakers? Only in my experience anything over 16.5cm diameter grill don't fit.

Thanks for the info guys ! The speakers i have already tried and were too big were:

Pioneer TS-G1711 -
BLAUPUNKT Mystic GTx662 16.5cm - which i had high hopes for - but the grills were very think indeed.

My Infinity grills measure dia 172mm and would think they are the absolute max the would fit.

Ads - sounds like you have already done a shedload of research on this !

The lad selling the TS-G1615 in your link says the box reckons the grills are 171mm so they might be a go-er.

However, the THx652 you have may just be the job ( plus they have 'attractive designer grilles'! crap - have i been spelling grilles wrong all this time ..?). Will pm ya.

I probably have been spelling Grilles wrong lol.

Yes I spent around 3-4 months researching to try and find ones that fitted properly. Sad i know but wanted to get some where I didn't have to fiddle around with the car too much or have speakers with now grilles.

The best thing to do to see if the ones on Ebay will fit, is try to measure the diameter that you have i think the max I could go to was 165mm from memory.

Yep they fit but I had to make the holes bigger for the actual speaker. The grills fit just, but are very tight up against the round bit of the door trim. I can post a pic up if you're interested to see what they look
like.

Well - i now have loads of info - cheers to the PH massive one again. The closest size to the Infinity ones i just removed, and the ones with the most subtle grill ( to go against my black door carpet ) are the Blaupunkt EMx 542 which come at a fab tight-arse price of £22 delivered !

Gonna give those a try and will report back.

Extra thanks to Dave500 for pulling one off for me - way beyond the call of duty ! beer

I can second that a) anything with an outer diameter over 165 mm (including grille) will involve some degree of fiddling for them to fit and b) apart from the JLs as per outlined above I've yet to find a current production 6.5" speaker that goes straight in (I've measure outside diameters as large as 18x mm, and 5.25" speakers seem to have ODs of about 160 mm these days).

I think one of these days I'll make myself something bespoke involving a high efficiency home audio/PA system wideband driver and a supertweeter; the latter might find a place where the plastic Allegro ashtrays are now...

I'm not that interested in music and the engine is more entertaining than the radio. To tidy the speaker covers up I removed them and prised off the logos, washed them in washing up liquid then cleaned them thoroughly with cellulose thinners and sprayed with satin black. Dab of silicone to put the logos back on, they may not sound any better but they look like new. Cheap too.
