Cut Out at Idle - Suggestions Please

Problem started last night.
Every time I slow down to a stop - juntions,
traffic lights etc. - the engine cuts out.
Restarts and drives away fine but obviously not
doing the battery and probably starter motor much good
having to fire it up every 400yds or so in town or
traffic. Tried a few things like blipping the throttle
just as I dip the clutch to try and keep revs going
but that didn't help.
Obvious problem is the stepper or other idling
mechanics and I will look at tomorrow - other
suggestions and things to check gratefully received.
Could this be fuel related. Usually use BP Ultimate
(seems to go better on this than Optimax) but as
pushed for time last night, had to use Sainsbury's
Super (No BP or Shell close by).

You've already covered the Stepper Motor!!
Next: Crap fuel, go to a motor factors ( or Halfrauds) and get injector cleaner and water-remover (this helps clear the tank of water that has accumulated) & together with inj cleaner will clear your system out reasonably cheaply.
After cleaning stepper motor, make sure throttle potentiometer is set up correctly as per: www.rpiv8.com/carbs-2.htm#setting-up

I think it might be the road speed sensor on the diff (feeds the speedo). This send data to the ECU and if you come to a halt and the sensor doesn't tell the ECU you've stopped the engine revs will be 800 (or whatever) but the fuelling will be waaay out. Car stalls, starts immediately and everything seems fine.
Happened to mine. Intermittent.
The signal from the sensor splits somewhere under the dash/centre console - one wire off to the ECU the other to the speedo. I think this is described in the bible.

My 93 4 litre was doing this the other week. At low revs it would just fade away................then I could restart 20 or so seconds later.
After some searching I found a corroded fuse holder in the passenger footwell. It was not one of the ones on the fuse board but just hanging there. I got a new one for a couple of quid from halfords & it's been fine ever since.
